Application Process
How to Apply
- Parents/carers should complete the school’s nursery application form – Nursery Application Form

Admissions Criteria
Allocations are generally offered on a first come first served basis. Where applications exceed the number of available places (26), priority will be given in the following order:
- Looked after children and previously looked after children (children in care or who were previously in care)
- Children with exceptional medical or social needs (supported by written evidence from a relevant professional)
- Children with siblings currently attending Spon Gate Primary School at the time of admission
- Distance from school – measured by the shortest walking route from the child’s home address to the main school entrance
Tie-breaker: In the event of a tie within any category, distance from school will be used as the deciding factor.
Waiting List
- A waiting list will be maintained for unsuccessful applicants
- The waiting list will be held in strict priority order according to the admissions criteria
- Parents/carers will be contacted if a place becomes available
- The waiting list will be maintained until end of autumn term
Fees and Charges
Funded Hours

Session Times
Morning sessions: 8:45am – 11:45am
The 15 funded hours are delivered across 5 sessions per week.
Attendance and Absence
- Regular attendance is expected and encouraged
- Parents/carers must notify the school by 8.30am if their child will be absent
- Persistent unexplained absences may result in the place being reviewed
Settling-In Arrangements
- All new children will be offered a settling-in period
- This may include:

Transition to Reception
- Attendance at our nursery does not guarantee a place in Reception. Reception places must be applied for directly through the Coventry City Council and is the responsibility of the parent/carer to do so within the admissions process and timescales given. The school will support families with the Reception application process
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- We welcome applications from children with SEND, however, additional information may be requested to enable us to meet the child’s needs effectively.
Withdrawing an Offer
The school reserves the right to withdraw an offer of a place if:
- It was made based on fraudulent or misleading information
- Parents/carers fail to respond to the offer within the specified timeframe
- Extended time is taken away from nursery education which cannot be authorised by the Headteacher
